COLONOSCOPY

A colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the large intestine (colon) and rectum. It is commonly performed to screen for colorectal cancer, investigate symptoms such as abdominal pain, bleeding, or changes in bowel habits, and diagnose conditions like polyps, diverticulosis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Procedure:

1.Preparation:

1.The patient follows a special diet (clear liquids) and takes a bowel-cleansing solution the day before.
2.This ensures the colon is clean for an accurate examination.

2.During the Procedure:

1.The patient is sedated for comfort.
2.A flexible tube with a camera (colonoscope) is inserted through the rectum.
3.The doctor examines the colon lining and may take biopsies or remove polyps if needed.

3.After the Procedure:

1.Patients may experience mild bloating or gas.
2.Normal activities can usually be resumed the next day.
3.If polyps were removed, dietary restrictions may be recommended temporarily.

A colonoscopy is a medical procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the colon and rectum. It can help identify the cause of bowel symptoms and detect conditions like ulcers, polyps, and cancer.
